Webmin is a what?

Webmin is a web based Graphical User Interface (GUI) for Linux System Administration. A Webmin page pulls in a Linux system configuration files such as the /etc/rc.d/ files, presents their contents to the administrator in a form, allows changes and then when submitted, updates the actual configuration files with the changes.

Program logic in Webmin provides help and warnings to the user.

A common HTML web browser such as Explorer or Firefox is the user tool to access Webmin which runs through its own simple webserver (not Apache) on the system.

We recommend using Webmin for almost all system administration tasks. This includes (but is not limited to) configuring and managing network interfaces, firewalls, Samba file and printer sharing, users and groups, cron jobs and sendmail configuration.

You can view your system's Webmin page from a browser equipped computer on your network and by going to http://IP.ADDRESS.OF.NODE:10000. In this case, "IP.ADDRESS.OF.NODE" is either the network IP address or Fully Qualified Domain Name of your node computer.

Besides the documentation available through Webmin itself, you can visit the project's home page at http://www.webmin.com
